Position Profile:
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Science (FEIS) is responsible for providing innovative, strategic and operational leadership that leverages best practices and models to develop, and implement programs that meet the job market requirements, and supply knowledgeable and highly qualified graduates. To lead the program curricula development and quality delivery and ensure the implementation of the most effective teaching and learning strategies to consistently increase student success at UOWD.
The Faculty of Engineering & Information Sciences brings together interdisciplinary academic disciplines, which include the areas of Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mobile Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology and Management, Engineering Management, and Asset Management. The structure of the Faculty has facilitated the development of interdisciplinary taught programs and research activity, in line with student interests, employer needs and both national and international trends.
Currently, the Faculty has over 45 academic and support staff. The Faculty offers a wide portfolio of courses which includes accredited BSc/BEng courses, a full-time and part-time MSc. portfolio. All our courses are strongly linked to industry and commerce, and our graduates are highly regarded as innovative and ‘well-rounded’ and ‘hands- on’ people who can make an immediate contribution to their employer’s business. Our engineering undergraduate courses are available with an Internship period in Industry. In addition, the Faculty offers a number of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) short courses aimed at practicing Engineers, Technologists and Scientists.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
As a member of the University’s Executive team, the Dean plays a significant role in university-wide initiatives and works in collaboration with other academic and administrative units to support the mission of the University. The Dean will be accountable to the President for the leadership, organization, management and conduct of the faculty and will be expected to meet the University’s strategic plan in the key areas of teaching, research, and professional and community-engagement activities. The position holder is expected to drive active research agendas; promote forward-looking teaching and learning approaches; review and develop new programs; and assist with the recruitment, admissions, and academic progress of students in the faculty’s undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
· Lead the development and implementation of the most effective teaching, learning and assessment strategies in alignment with UOWD’s strategy, through cost-efficient use of its resources and within the framework of the University’s Strategic Plan and the University’s policies
· Promote both UOWD and the faculty both locally and internationally, and is responsible for oversight of programs' development, delivery, quality assurance, and quality improvement.
· Commit to pursuing actively UOWD’s linkages with the relevant professional groups and industry sectors, and to promoting UOWD's international activities and profile.
· Oversee faculty engagement in applied research relevant to the faculties interests and its targeted priority sectors

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
To be successful in this position you will need an earned doctorate in a relevant discipline from an accredited international institution and demonstrated academic experience, with excellence in teaching or research, and academic governance. In addition, the successful candidate will have:
· A proven track-record collaborating with business and industry
· Demonstrated experience in the effective management of the human resource, financial and administration functions of a department in a tertiary environment
· Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing effective policies and procedures
· Demonstrated ability to engage with multiple constituencies, including students, Faculty members, staff, and alumni, as well as leaders in the business, political, social, and governmental sectors locally, nationally, and internationally
· Demonstrated understanding of accreditation and transnational education
Qualifications:
Essential
· An earned doctorate in a relevant discipline from an accredited international institution
· Demonstrated academic experience, with excellence in teaching or research, and academic governance
· Demonstrated experience in the effective management of the human resource, financial and administration functions of a department / unit / centre in a tertiary environment
· Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing effective policies and procedures
Desirable
· Demonstrated knowledge of relevant professional bodies in Engineering and Information Sciences
· Evidence of collaborative program development
