ROLE: CONSULTANT P/T

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Highlighting the Importance of Nairobi & Kenya’s Urban Forests for Human Livelihoods and Climate-resilient Development – The Every tree counts campaign.

Given the plight of urban forests in Kenya, WRI Africa and Cities4Forests will implement a Nairobi-initiated and Kenya-wide political action and awareness raising campaign to protect Kenya’s urban green spaces. The campaign will be launched through WRI and partners’ social media platforms and traditional media in May 2022. It will run for a fixed period with specific calls to action around forest conservation and protection of urban forests and green spaces in Nairobi and Kenya at large. In collaboration with key partners (Daima Coalition, Natural Justice, etc.) we will create and share advocacy and educational assets across multiple social platforms and through media which will raise awareness of a) the benefits to people and nature of Kenya’s urban forests and trees and b) the threat they are under.

The campaign will call for development that guarantees livable ecosystems and creates urban landscapes resilient to climate change. The awareness raising arm of the campaign will be complemented by a soft diplomacy strategy that will place increasing focus on Kenya’s forest protection and urban development authorities, as well as its legislatures and enforcement bodies to guarantee permanent protections for urban forests, trees, and nature.
