Purpose of Role:
This role will support our work to position the British
Council as the partner of choice in developing and delivering educational
change projects and English language learning and assessment solutions. It will
support the implementation of our Assessment Solutions and Aptis ESOL
strategies in the designated region. It
will do this by directly engaging with high-level ministry and education
institution officials to gain recognition for our products and win, develop and
deliver assessment projects. Direct account management with senior leaders is
therefore a key aspect of this role.
This is a regionally-focused role which sits within the
Global Assessments Solutions team and is matrix managed by the Business
Development team. It must also work with our own Test Development and
Operations teams as well as the Assessment Research Group. The work of this
post will be fully in-line with global and regional commercial plans and
strategies and will cooperate closely with global, regional and country team.
Main
Accountabilities:
Commercial
& business development
· Support
the implementation of the Solutions and Aptis ESOL regional strategy by leading
pursuit of identified business opportunities within defined timeframe, targets
and budget.
· Build
and maintain direct, trust-based relationships with senior stakeholders in
government and education, as well as local assessment practitioners, partners
and opinion-leaders, to support the regional strategy, secure assessment
projects and win recognition for our products.
· Support
and advise country teams on identifying and winning business opportunities for
large-scale assessment contracts with government institutions, universities,
colleges, schools and corporate bodies.
· Work
with regional and global teams to contribute to regional strategies for Aptis
ESOL and Assessment Solution.
Communicating
& Influencing
· Ensure
visibility of our Assessment Solutions work internally and externally by
disseminating evidence that reflects our contributions to education reform
agendas.
· When
required, develop, motivate and manage the deployment of short-term academic
consultants to ensure the effective resourcing and secure delivery of British
Council Solutions programs.
· Provide
consultation to local and regional teams on Aptis ESOL, contributing to their
expertise in the product.
Managing
projects
· Support
the Global Projects and Partnership Programs Manager with development of
comprehensive project plans and schedules when new projects are secured.
· Project
manage and oversee the delivery of country-level client solutions projects in
priority markets, ensuring documents are complete and projects are delivered on
time, to agreed budget parameters securing relevant project deliverables while
managing business risks
Role
specific knowledge and experience.
Minimum/essential
· MA in
Testing, Applied Linguistics or TESOL
· Evidence
of government or high-level projects involving language assessment consultancy
and education solutions involving assessments.
· Demonstrable
Knowledge of English assessment
· Record
of experience of direct relationship building and influencing with senior
managers in government and education
· Record
of leading significant business development projects, preferably with solid
experience in exams management.
Desirable
· Record
of strategic commercial leadership of complex commercial initiatives through
influence rather than direct line management.
· Record
of experience leading operations and/or marketing colleagues though successful
delivery of an activity or project.
· Record
of leadership and development of geographically-dispersed teams
