Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in
Tanzania (CCBRT) aims to be the preferred provider of accessible specialized
health services in Africa. CCBRT operates as a healthcare social enterprise and
through development programs to serve the community and the most vulnerable.
CCBRT is Tanzania’s largest local provider of
disability and rehabilitation services in the country. The organization is
committed to empowering people with disabilities and their families, improving
their quality of life, and ensuring access to medical and rehabilitative
treatment.
CCBRT also focuses on preventing lifelong disabilities
and is actively engaged in maternal and newborn healthcare (MNHC), including
obstetric fistula repairs. It’s Maternity and Newborn Wing serves as a referral
Centre for high-risk and emergency deliveries in Dar es Salaam and the Eastern
Zone of Tanzania.
To strengthen its Academy unit, CCBRT is seeking a
dynamic Librarian Volunteer with an interest in the medical field.
The
role
The Librarian Volunteer will be responsible for the
establishment and management of a new library for a medical training college.
The role focuses on building foundational systems, organizing medical and
health-science resources, and supporting students and faculty in accessing
high-quality academic materials. The position plays a key role in creating an
information-rich learning environment that supports teaching.
Key
responsibilities
Library
establishment and setup
- Develop and implement the initial layout, organization, and classification system for the new library.
- Establish cataloging, circulation, and inventory systems.
- Assist in selecting, acquiring, and organizing medical textbooks, reference works, journals, and digital resources.
- Create library policies, standard operating procedures, and collection development guidelines.
Collection
development
Recommend essential materials aligned with academic
programs, including nursing, clinical medicine, and laboratory technology
Library
services and user support:
- Support students, faculty, and the team in accessing library resources.
- Support the team in other activities where required.
Training
and capacity building
- Train designated staff, student workers, or faculty representatives in basic library operations.
- Develop simple guides or orientation materials for new library users.
- Provide mentorship to ensure long-term sustainability of library services.
Additional
responsibilities
- Participate proactively in problem-solving, improvement initiatives, huddle meetings, and other team meetings (Lean).
- Provide administrative support to the research unit.
The
candidate
- Required qualifications and skills
- Educational background in Library Science, Information Management, Education, or a related field.
- Familiarity with medical or health-science literature is an advantage.
- Experience in cataloging, classification systems, and library management tools.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in both English and Swahili.
Computer
literacy.
Ability to work independently in a resource-limited or
newly established environment.
